Manchester United are reportedly open to making a signing before the end of the January transfer window.

The Red Devils have allowed Donny van de Beek, Jadon Sancho and Hannibal Mejbri to leave on loan this month, while youngsters Joe Hugill, Dan Gore, Rhys Bennett and Maxi Oyedele have also exited on short-term deals.

There could be further outgoings before the end of the January market, with Facundo Pellistri being heavily linked with a departure, although a switch to Granada has allegedly stalled.

Man United also no longer have Sergio Reguilon in their squad, with the Spaniard returning to parent club Tottenham Hotspur earlier this month before moving to Brentford on loan.

The club had allegedly always been planning for a busy window in terms of exits, with the wage bill being trimmed due to the rules surrounding Financial Fair Play.

However, according to the Manchester Evening News, the Red Devils have not ruled out making a signing before the window closes for business.

The report claims that the deal would need to be 'exceptionally economic', with a loan addition rather than a permanent arrival more likely if a signing is to be made.

Man United's squad has been boosted this month with the returns of some important players from injury, including Casemiro and Lisandro Martinez, who were back against Tottenham Hotspur last time out.

Luke Shaw and Harry Maguire, meanwhile, are now back in first-team training and potentially in line to face Newport County in the fourth round of the FA Cup on Sunday.

However, Man United are short at centre-forward, with Anthony Martial missing since the beginning of December due to illness and a troublesome hip problem.

Martial is believed to be in discussions with medical staff at the club to determine whether he needs an operation, which has the potential to end his campaign.

Rasmus Hojlund, who has scored seven times in 25 appearances this season, could therefore be left as the team's only senior centre-forward for the rest of the campaign.

Bayern Munich's Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting is thought to be a possible loan target, with the 34-year-old said to have admirers at Old Trafford.

An impressive 2022-23 campaign saw the experienced attacker score 17 times in all competitions, but he has only managed three goals for the German giants during the 2023-24 campaign. body check tags ::
