Manchester United have reportedly learned the asking price of Bayern Munich midfielder Marcel Sabitzer.

When needing to strengthen in the centre of the pitch towards the end of the January transfer window, United moved to sign Sabitzer on a straight loan deal.

While the 29-year-old's stay at Old Trafford cannot be described as an overwhelming success, he has established himself as a valuable member of the squad.

A total of 11 starts and seven substitute outings were made in all competitions before Sabitzer suffered a season-ending knee injury.

The Austria international will return to the Allianz Arena in the summer with his parent club having a new head coach in the form of Thomas Tuchel.

As it stands, it is unclear whether the former Chelsea boss will show preference to retaining the services of the versatile Sabitzer in light of Bayern's inconsistency since his arrival.

Nevertheless, with just over two years left on his contract, there remains the possibility that Bayern will give consideration to cashing in on a player who has made as many substitute outings for the Bundesliga side as he has starts.

According to Sky Deutschland reporter Florian Plettenberg, club officials would be willing to consider bids in the region of €25m (£21.8m).

Plettenburg says that United are contemplating whether to explore a permanent deal for Sabitzer, even though they are yet to instigate any formal discussions.

Head coach Erik ten Hag is also said to be keen for the club to prioritise a new central defender and forward before they attempt to add to their midfield.

United have been linked with a wide array of attackers with Anthony Martial and Burnley loanee Wout Weghorst both in line to depart the Theatre of Dreams over the coming months.

Earlier this week, it was claimed that Juventus' Dusan Vlahovic was a more likely target than Tottenham Hotspur's Harry Kane and Napoli's Victor Osimhen.

Juventus may be more tempted to cash in on their most prized asset on the back of a 10-point deduction that was enforced in Serie A on Monday, leaving the club unable to qualify for next season's Champions League. body check tags ::
