Miguel Layun reveals that the chance to play in the Champions League with Porto was a deciding factor in his move from Watford.

Miguel Layun has revealed that the lure of playing Champions League football with Porto was a deciding factor in his decision to leave Watford.

The 27-year-old defender joined the Portuguese side at the beginning of this month on a one-year loan with the option of a permanent contract, in a deal thought to be worth around £4.4m.

Layun featured as Porto beat Chelsea 2-1 in the group stage on Tuesday evening, and the Mexican hopes that playing in such a high-profile competition justifies his choice to leave Vicarage Road.

"When you have the chance to play Champions League, it is something more," the Daily Star quotes him as saying.

"You don't have enough chances in your life to be in this tournament. So when I received the call from the club I said 'yes'. It was one of my dreams to play in the Champions League and now I am living that dream.

"I was thinking of staying with Watford. Because we fought very hard to get the promotion. It was very important in that moment for me, to try to remain in the squad, and play in the Premier League. But at the end, life can change in one minute, and I decided to take this new adventure and try to do it well."

Layun has made five appearances so far for Porto.
