Sports Mole takes a closer look at how each individual player performed during Atletico Madrid's thumping 4-0 La Liga win over Real Madrid.

Atletico Madrid moved four points behind La Liga leaders Real Madrid with a thumping 4-0 win over their capital rivals on Saturday.

It is the first time since the 1998-99 season that Atletico have beaten Real in the league at the Vicente Calderon.

First-half goals from Tiago and Saul Niguez gave the hosts a healthy advantage before Antoine Griezmann and Mario Mandzukic netted in the second 45 minutes.

Here, Sports Mole takes a closer look at how each individual player performed during the Madrid derby.

ATLETICO

Goal

Miguel Moya: Only had one save to make, but it was a good one as he pushed Asier Illarramendi's stinging effort over the crossbar. Another strong performance from the summer acquisition. (6/10)

Defence

Juanfran: Has been a little short of his best in recent weeks, but returned to top form here. A danger in forward positions and defensively excellent in the Spanish capital. (7/10)

Diego Godin: Picked up a bloodied nose on another battling performance from the powerful defender. Surely now the best centre-back in world football. (8/10)

Miranda: Has had a difficult season thus far, but returned to somewhere near his best here. Always looked in control against Real Madrid's front three. (7/10)

Guilherme Siqueira: Set up Saul for Atletico's second on what was a supern display from the full-back. Caused all sorts of problems with his work in forward areas. (8/10)

Midfield

Gabi: No-frills performance from the Spaniard, who kept things ticking over in the middle of the park. Plays such a crucial role in these type of matches. (7/10)

Koke: Lasted just 10 minutes after picking up a hamstring injury. (5/10)

Tiago: Scored the opening goal of the match and also had chances in the second period. Seemed to enjoy pushing further forward due to Atletico's domination of the ball. (7/10)

Attack

Antoine Griezmann: Another excellent display from the Frenchman. Gave his side an out ball with his pace and deservedly got on the scoresheet 20 minutes from time. (8/10)

Mario Mandzukic: Set up Tiago for Atletico's first of the match, before scoring the fourth with an excellent header. Continues to improve with each passing match. (8/10)

Arda Turan: Played his part in two of Atletico's four goals on another wonderful performance from the Turk. Radiates class each time that he has possession of the ball. (8/10)

Substitutes

Saul Niguez: Did not start nor finish the match, but made some contribution. Scored his side's second with a stunning bicycle kick before setting up Griezmann for goal number three. (8/10)

Raul Garcia: Replaced Saul 20 minutes from time and immediately picked up the pace of the match. (7/10)

Fernando Torres: Only given the final 15 minutes, but still provided an assist - setting up Mandzukic with an excellent cross. Looks a much happier man these days. (7/10)

REAL MADRID

Goal

Iker Casillas: Dropped a big clanger for Atletico's first of the match on what was a difficult afternoon. That said, the Spaniard was not helped by his shaky defence. (5/10)

Defence

Dani Carvajal: Found Siqueira difficult to handle in a wide area. Usually such a threat in forward areas, but could not make his mark at the Calderon. (6/10)

Nacho: Has not had too much football this season and it looked like it here. Really struggled to contain the movement of the home side's attack. (5/10)

Raphael Varane: Now enjoying a regular run in the team, but looks better alongside Sergio Ramos. Not the Frenchman's best afternoon in a Real shirt. (6/10)

Fabio Coentrao: Another that has struggled for football this season and the Portuguese really struggled also. Looked leggy and lethargic in defensive areas. (5/10)

Midfield

Sami Khedira: Tasked with protecting his back four, but the German really struggled and was subbed at the break. Has not looked the same player since returning from a long-term knee injury. (5/10)

Isco: One of Real's best players this season, but the Spaniard did not impact matters here. Did not really see enough of the ball in forward areas. (6/10)

Toni Kroos: Kept things tidy in the middle of the park, the German also delivered a couple of dangerous set pieces. One of his side's better players. (6/10)

Attack

Gareth Bale: Very frustrating afternoon for the Welshman. Had some bright moments, but faded in and out of the match, especially in the second 45 minutes. (5/10)

Karim Benzema: Poor from the Frenchman, who made little impact. (5/10)

Cristiano Ronaldo: Returned to the XI following a two-game suspension, but it did not happen for the Portuguese. Had a frustrating afternoon in the capital. (5/10)

Substitutes

Jese Rodriguez: Entered at the interval in place of Khedira, but the Spaniard struggled against an impressive Atletico side. (5/10)

Asier Illarramendi: Had his side's only attempt on target in the second period - bringing a smart save from Moya. (6/10)

Javier Hernandez: Replaced Benzema for the final 15 minutes, but hardly saw the ball. (5/10)
