Real Madrid have finally reached an agreement to sign Paris Saint-Germain striker Kylian Mbappe on a free transfer this summer, according to a report.

The 25-year-old informed PSG last week that he would be leaving the club when his contract expired at the end of the season, several months on from rejecting the chance to trigger his 12-month extension.

There has been no confirmation from Mbappe's side or PSG's side that the France international will be packing his bags this summer, as the terms of his exit are yet to be finalised with president Nasser Al-Khelaifi.

However, there is a consensus that the former Monaco starlet will finally be closing his turbulent PSG chapter, and Real Madrid have been in hot pursuit of his services for a number of years now.

According to BBC Sport's Guillem Balague, Mbappe has now given the green light to a highly-anticipated switch to the Bernabeu this summer, although nothing has been signed between the two parties just yet.

Both PSG and Real are still vying for glory in this year's Champions League, with the French champions defeating Real Sociedad 2-0 in the first leg of their last-16 tie, while Los Blancos triumphed 1-0 over RB Leipzig last Tuesday.

As a result, the report adds that no announcement will be made while the two clubs could still clash in the European Cup, but confirmation of his imminent switch could arrive when one or both teams' Champions League campaigns end.

Despite tentative talk of a possible move to the Premier League with either Liverpool or Arsenal, Mbappe apparently told Al-Khelaifi in last week's meeting that he would be making the move to Real Madrid this summer, and he is keen for his future to be resolved before March.

The World Cup winner is expected to put pen to paper on a five-year deal until the summer of 2029, and he will pocket €15m (£12.8m) in yearly wages while on the books in the Spanish capital.

Such a figure represents a gargantuan cut on the €200m (£171.5m) he collects annually at the Parc des Princes, but he is supposedly set to receive a mammoth €150m (£128.6m) signing-on bonus, which will be paid over five years.

Mbappe will also retain a portion of his image rights, but as part of a gentlemen's agreement with Al-Khelaifi, he will forgo his loyalty bonus from PSG upon his exit from the Parc des Princes.

The France international will bid farewell to PSG seven years after his initial loan arrival from Monaco, since when he has scored a club-record 244 goals in 291 matches for the club, winning five Ligue 1 titles in the process.

Real Madrid lodged two bids north of £100m for Mbappe in the summer of 2021 before the attacker memorably snubbed Los Blancos to sign his current contract extension with PSG in 2022, but he was briefly banished from the first-team squad last summer after refusing to activate his extension.

The 25-year-old was also dropped to the bench for the weekend's Ligue 1 clash with Nantes but scored a penalty as a second-half substitute in that 2-0 win, his 32nd strike from 31 games in all tournaments this season.

Carlo Ancelotti apparently intends to deploy Mbappe in a central position, and he could be bestowed with Real Madrid's number 10 shirt if its current incumbent Luka Modric leaves the club this summer.
