Mauricio Pochettino: Victory over Burnley "fully deserved"

Mauricio Pochettino admits to being "pleased" by Tottenham Hotspur's narrow 2-1 win over Burnley, which he feels was "fully deserved" over the 90 minutes.

Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has insisted that he can have no complaints after seeing his side bounce back from a goal down to claim a "deserved" win over Burnley.

A shock was on the cards at White Hart Lane when Ashley Barnes was handed a gift of an opener 21 minutes in, profiting from some slack defending to score just the Clarets' second away goal this term.

Spurs soon recovered and were level six minutes later thanks to Dele Alli's strike, before Danny Rose controversially secured a 2-1 win after being slotted through by Moussa Sissoko, who the visitors felt should have been shown red for a late challenge on Stephen Ward moments beforehand.

Speaking to BBC Sport after the game, Pochettino said: "In the Premier League it is very hard to win games. Today we knew Burnley are a team that fights a lot, run a lot and every ball they are ready to challenge.

"The team played in a very good way and we fully deserved the victory. I am pleased for that. It was a very difficult game. Burnley's goal came from many unlucky actions. We gave the ball three times. It was a very strange goal.

"The most important thing is to always believe and fight to try and win the game. But I didn't see [the Sissoko incident]. I don't know if he touched him or not. The referee saw better than me."

Tottenham are now just one point behind fourth-placed rivals Arsenal ahead of their Boxing Day trip to take on Southampton at St Mary's Stadium.
