Shirt numbers available to Pedro Porro at Tottenham Hotspur

Sports Mole takes a look at which shirt numbers Pedro Porro could take at Tottenham Hotspur as he closes in on a switch from Sporting Lisbon.

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly on the verge of sealing the signing of Spanish right-wing back Pedro Porro from Sporting Lisbon.

Despite signing Djed Spence in the summer, Antonio Conte has failed to find a consistent performer on that side of the field, with Matt Doherty and Emerson Royal struggling to impress.

Having survived rumours that a €45m (£39.5m) deal was supposedly on the verge of collapse, Tottenham are now understood to have reached a full verbal agreement to bring Porro back to England, less than a year after his permanent exit from Manchester City.

Here, Sports Mole takes a look at which shirt numbers are on offer to Porro at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The '24' jersey has been a staple of Porro's during the early years of his career, with the defender taking that number during his final season at Girona and all three of his campaigns at Sporting Lisbon so far.

Ironically, that Tottenham jersey is currently taken by the man that he could temporarily replace in Spence, who could potentially leave on loan before Tuesday's transfer deadline if a deal for Porro is completed soon.

Porro could therefore get his hands on the 24 shirt again if Spence is allowed to depart on loan, and his fellow right-back Serge Aurier was bestowed with the jersey before departing in 2021.

As a right-back, Porro has unsurprisingly donned the '2' down the years as well, primarily for Spain at youth and his one appearance at senior level, but that shirt is in Doherty's possession at the moment.

The Irishman's long-term future is shrouded in uncertainty though, so the '2' could fall in Porro's hands should he make a positive impression in the next six months, but Doherty should keep hold of it for now.

In terms of available numbers, the '3' is up for grabs following Sergio Reguilon's loan move to Atletico Madrid, although that shirt has typically been reserved for left-backs, including Danny Rose and a young Gareth Bale.

The numbers 8, 13 and 18 have no takers either, with the former and latter shirts most recently occupied by Harry Winks and Giovani Lo Celso, who are on loan at Sampdoria and Villarreal respectively.

Whether the midfield duo will continue their careers at Tottenham is another question entirely, but the 22 and 23 shirts - sported last by Pierluigi Gollini and Steven Bergwijn - are available too.

The '26' has had no takers since the legendary Ledley King - who sported it for over a decade - hung up his boots in 2012, but that shirt will reportedly stay unofficially retired unless one of the former centre-back's children ever plays for the club. body check tags ::
