Tottenham Hotspur assistant manager Cristian Stellini expects emerging attacker Bryan Gil to remain at the club during the January transfer window.

Tottenham Hotspur assistant manager Cristian Stellini is hopeful that Bryan Gil will remain at the club during the January transfer window.

The former Sevilla youngster has largely struggled to force his way into Antonio Conte's plans since arriving in North London in the summer of 2021.

Dejan Kulusevski, Son Heung-min and Lucas Moura have usually been preferred out wide when fully fit, while Richarlison can also feature in a supporting role.

However, with Kulusevski, Richarlison and Lucas all struggling to stay fit recently, Gil has started to enjoy consistent game time in a Tottenham jersey.

The Spanish youngster claimed his first assist of the season for Harry Kane in Wednesday's 4-0 Premier League triumph over Crystal Palace - his second consecutive start in the top flight after also featuring in the 2-0 loss to Aston Villa.

Gil also received a standing ovation for his performance against Portsmouth in Saturday's 1-0 FA Cup win, but he has been tipped to head out on loan again during the January transfer window.

The attacker spent the second half of the 2021-22 campaign on loan at Valencia, who are believed to be interested in bringing him back to La Liga for another temporary spell.

However, speaking before Saturday's FA Cup win, Stellini expressed his confidence in keeping Gil on the books over the winter, saying: "I think so [that Gil would stay]. He's playing very well and we're so happy.

"He has a great, great, improvement because he trains every day 110%. This is why he deserved to play an assist and the passes before the assist in this match [against Palace]."

Gil's start against Portsmouth in the FA Cup was only his 29th appearance for Tottenham, during which time he has set up two goals but is still waiting for his first strike for the North Londoners.

The 21-year-old was one of several young players to have left Stellini impressed on Saturday, with Pape Sarr and Oliver Skipp also playing pivotal roles in the victory for the Lilywhites, whose only goal came through Kane in the 50th minute.

"Not one player in particular because young player, Skippy and Pape, they are so important in our rotation, because last season and the start of this season we used Rodrigo [Bentancur] and Pierre [Emile-Hojbjerg] a lot and we need reliable players," Stellini said after the game.

"Also if they're young it's important that we give minutes and rotation and it's a different choice. They were so good today, they moved a lot, they move the ball and I think Pape Sarr, Skippy and Gil they were all so good today."

Stellini was stepping in for Conte following the loss of the Italian's former Juventus teammate Gianluca Vialli, who died at the age of 58 on Friday due to complications from pancreatic cancer.

Tottenham return to Premier League action with the visit of Arsenal for the second North London derby of the season on January 15. body check tags ::
