Galatasaray 'make verbal offer for Tottenham Hotspur's Davinson Sanchez'

Galatasaray reportedly submit a verbal offer of €9m (£7.7m) for out-of-favour Tottenham Hotspur centre-back Davinson Sanchez.

Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly received a verbal proposal from Galatasaray for Colombian centre-back Davinson Sanchez.

The 27-year-old was a peripheral figure under Antonio Conte, Ryan Mason and Cristian Stellini last year and is expected to head for the exit door this summer.

Ben Davies, Eric Dier, Clement Lenglet and Cristian Romero were all preferred to Sanchez in the heart of the backline, and the Colombian was memorably booed by his own fans in a 3-2 home loss to Bournemouth.

Having been brought on as a substitute for the injured Lenglet, Sanchez was criticised for his part in two of Bournemouth's goals and was withdrawn only 23 minutes after entering the fray.

The defender was jeered by a section of the crowd as he made his way off the field, and captain Hugo Lloris admitted that he had never seen anything like the treatment that Sanchez received on that day.

Sanchez has also entered the final year of his contract in North London, and his agents are believed to be working on a summer exit in a bid to reignite his career.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Turkish giants Galatasaray have now made contact with Spurs over a possible deal for the Colombia international, and they are willing to offer €9m (£7.7m).

It is unclear whether Tottenham plan to accept the bid, but Romano adds that Sanchez has another two or three clubs interested in acquiring his services during the current window.

The final decision will rest with the 27-year-old, who has also been linked with Galatasaray's Turkish Super Lig rivals Fenerbahce, as well as Spartak Moscow and Villarreal.

Sanchez spent one season at Ajax in the 2016-17 campaign before transferring to Tottenham in a €42m (£35.8m) deal, and he has five goals and one assist to show from 205 matches for the Lilywhites in all tournaments.

The South American played 24 times for Tottenham during their challenging 2022-23 season and captained them to an FA Cup fourth-round win over Preston North End, but he only made eight starts in the Premier League and played a mere 19 minutes in the Champions League.

Sanchez's exit would open up a spot for Wolfsburg's Micky van de Ven, who is now believed to be edging closer to a move to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium following a positive round of talks on Monday.

Spurs are also in discussions to sign former loanee Lenglet on a permanent deal from Barcelona, whose president Joan Laporta has expressed confidence about the chances of a deal going through.

Joe Rodon and Japhet Tanganga could also be cut from the ranks to create space for new arrivals, while Dier's contract runs out next year, but the Englishman apparently intends to stay and fight for his place under Ange Postecoglou.

Tottenham have already brought in Dejan Kulusevski, Guglielmo Vicario and James Maddison in the current window, while Manor Solomon's arrival on a free transfer could be announced later on Tuesday.
