Real Madrid 'to try to sign Harry Kane for £68m'

Real Madrid are allegedly keen to sign Tottenham Hotspur forward Harry Kane in a £68m deal, considerably less than Spurs' asking price.

Real Madrid are reportedly hopeful of signing Tottenham Hotspur forward Harry Kane for a cut-price fee.

Ahead of the summer transfer window, the La Liga giants had no plans to make a big-money addition in attack, the belief being that Karim Benzema would pen a new contract.

However, the Frenchman has instead chosen to move to Saudi Arabian side Al-Ittihad, leaving Los Blancos short of options down the middle of their attack.

With the likes of Joselu and Rodrigo Moreno - of Espanyol and Leeds United respectively - have each been linked with a transfer to the Santiago Bernabeu, they would not be regarded as first choice.

That has naturally led to interest in Kane, who has just one year left on his contract at Spurs and is not close to penning a renewal at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

There have been mixed reports over Spurs' intentions for Kane, some saying that they will retain his services regardless of the offers that they receive with others hinting that bids from foreign clubs may be considered.

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is said to be against selling to a Premier League rival - namely Manchester United - and may resist any approaches from the Red Devils.

Nevertheless, Marca claims that Real president Florentino Perez will attempt to negotiate a deal for considerably less than Kane's valuation.

Levy would allegedly contemplate a sale to a foreign club for £80m, particularly if it kept Kane away from United, but the report claims that Real are targeting a €80m (£68.7m) proposal.

Real are seemingly against going over that figure, aware that Kane could become available on a free transfer in 2024 if he does not leave North London over the coming months.

Spurs reportedly require money after their failure to qualify for Europe, with Levy wary of the upward trajectories of Newcastle United and Aston Villa that ultimately contributed to their eighth-placed finish in the Premier League in 2022-23.

As far as Kane is concerned, it has consistently been claimed that he is keen to become the Premier League's all-time leading goalscorer, that figure realistically not in range even if he spends one more year in England's top flight.

Chelsea forward Kai Havertz is another attacker to be shortlisted by Real officials, although it is unclear whether they will be able to negotiate a fee with their counterparts at Stamford Bridge. body check tags ::
