Both teams hit the woodwork as Sydney FC and Wellington Phoenix play out a goalless draw in Thursday's A-League contest at Allianz Stadium.

Sydney FC's winless streak in the A-League has been extended to four games courtesy of a goalless draw with Wellington Phoenix.

In a bitty game at Allianz Stadium in which Sydney committed 29 fouls, chances were few and far between and in the first half the only real opening fell to Wellington's Roly Bonevacia, who sliced wide after the ball broke kindly for him on the edge of the area.

Shortly before the hour mark Sydney had their first clear-cut opportunity when captain Alex Brosque dragged just wide of the far post after being picked out by Shane Smeltz's reverse through-ball.

In the final 20 minutes both sides hit the woodwork, but neither could find a winner. First Alex Rodriguez prodded against the post from a tight angle before Brosque went agonisingly close with seven minutes remaining.

His pace took him through on goal and with Nix keeper Glen Moss slightly out of position, Brosque curled the ball towards the near post and it ricocheted off the upright before bobbling back across the goalline.

Sydney stay fourth in the table, while Wellington, who are without a win in four away games, remain sixth.
