Gillingham go top of League One with a late 1-0 victory away to Crewe Alexandra, as Walsall are beaten 2-1 at home to Chesterfield while Burton Albion are hammered by Fleetwood.

Gillingham, who beat Crewe Alexandra 1-0 away from home, find themselves on top of League One after Walsall succumbed to a 2-1 defeat at home to Chesterfield.

Brad Inman put the ball in the net for Crewe after 11 minutes but the linesman spotted a handball by the Scotsman.

In a tense affair, Rory Donnelly popped up with an injury-time winner to hand the Gills all three points and a spot atop the League One table.

Sylvan Ebanks-Blake struck early for Chesterfield against Walsall, the league leaders at the beginning of today's fixtures, with a controlled six-yard header.

Ian Evatt doubled the Spireites' lead early in the second half, in which Matt Preston scored a 93rd-minute consolation for Dean Smith's side.

Wigan Athletic scored four first-half goals as they hammered Colchester United.

Donervon Daniels opened the scoring for Gary Caldwell's side after just five minutes as he tucked in a close-range effort from Yanic Wildschut's cross, before Max Power added an 11th-minute second.

Daniels fired in a second three minutes later, while Will Grigg wrapped up the first-half scoring with a 33rd-minute strike past on-loan Preston North End keeper Jamie Jones.

Grigg netted his second, Wigan's fifth, with three minutes remaining in the fixture to complete the rout.

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink's Burton Albion shipped four goals away to Fleetwood Town to find themselves two points off new league leaders Gillingham.

A Bobby Grant brace, sandwiched between goals from Jamie Proctor and Ashley Hunter, saw the Cod Army run out comfortable winners at Highbury Stadium.

Devante Cole scored for Bradford City after four minutes against Doncaster Rovers, latching on to a flick on from a long throw before firing home.

Cole's strike consigned new Rovers manager Darren Ferguson to a loss in his first game in charge at the Keepmoat Stadium.

On-loan Crystal Palace forward Sullay Kaikai gave Shrewsbury Town the lead away to Scunthorpe United.

The Iron levelled in the second half through Scott Laird, before a Paddy Madden penalty put Scunthorpe ahead and handed Mark Robins' side all three points.

Southend United moved level on points with sixth-placed Sheffield United, who drew away to Oldham, with a 2-1 victory over Barnsley.

The Tykes went ahead from a Josh Scowen penalty, only to see Anthony Wordsworth and Luke Prosser score either side of half time to hand Phil Brown's playoff-chasing charges all three points.

Danny Philliskirk gave Oldham a 10th-minute lead against Sheffield United, before Matt Done restored parity for the Blades after 30 minutes in a tie that ended 1-1.

Millwall ran out 2-0 winners at home to Swindon Town thanks to first-half strikes from Lee Gregory and Aiden O'Brien.

Port Vale led Peterborough United at the break as Ebo Andoh fired home, before Michael Bostwick got a second-half leveller from the penalty spot to hand each side a share of the spoils.

Elsewhere, new Coventry City signing Joe Cole did not make the squad as Tony Mowbray's side were held at home by Blackpool, while Bury and Rochdale also played out a scoreless draw.
