Manor Marussia have announced that they have signed Alexander Rossi to replace Roberto Merhi for five of the remaining seven races of the Forumla 1 season.
The 23-year-old will become the first American to compete in the sport since Scott Speed raced for Scuderia Toro Rosso in 2007.
Rossi will make his debut in this weekend's Singapore Grand Prix, while the team have confirmed that he will also race for them in Japan, the United States, Mexico and Brazil.
Rossi's commitments in GP2 mean that Merhi will fill in for him at the Russian and Abu Dhabi races.
"We start our Singapore Grand Prix with the news that we have signed Alexander Rossi as race driver for five of the seven remaining rounds of the season," Manor announced on their Twitter page.
Rossi will join British driver Will Stevens on the Manor team.
