Max Verstappen takes pole at Dutch Grand Prix

Max Verstappen has secured pole position for Sunday's Dutch Grand Prix, the third successive time that he has achieved such a feat in front of his home supporters.

During a final session that included two red flags, Verstappen produced a sparkling lap to finish over half-a-second ahead of the remainder of the field.

The front and second rows changed numerous times during the closing seconds of qualifying, but it was McLaren's Lando Norris who will start in second.

George Russell produced one of his best qualifying displays of the season to finish third fastest in the Mercedes, and he will be joined on the second row by Williams driver Alex Albon.

Fernando Alonso rallied to put his Aston Martin on fifth, with Spanish compatriot Carlos Sainz Jr sixth in his Ferrari.

Despite Verstappen's performance in the Red Bull, it was a disappointing session for Sergio Perez, the Mexican only seventh, and McLaren's Oscar Piastri will be equally frustrated by only securing eighth place.

Charles Leclerc and Logan Sargeant - who both crashed in Q3 - had to settle for ninth and 10th respectively, yet that was a better effort than Lewis Hamilton in the other Mercedes.

Hamilton missed out on Q3 by just 0.084 seconds and will start on 13th, but Liam Lawson - who has replaced Daniel Ricciardo in the AlphaTauri due to the Australian's broken wrist - will start in last. body check tags ::
