Tiger Woods confirms PGA Tour return at Genesis Invitational

Tiger Woods confirms that he will make his first appearance of the 2024 PGA Tour season at next week's Genesis Invitational.
Sports Mole

Tiger Woods has formally announced that he plans to participate at next week's Genesis Invitational.

After undergoing further ankle surgery last year, there were concerns that the sport's most high-profile figure would not return to the PGA Tour.

However, 34 weeks after needing to withdraw from the Masters, the 48-year-old surprised many by making an appearance at the Hero World Challenge in December.

Although Woods could only finish in 18th spot in a 20-player field, completing four rounds with minimal discomfort was viewed as hugely encouraging ahead of 2024.

Woods - an 82-time PGA Tour winner - has hinted that playing once a month on the circuit may be achievable if he can find the right balance of events.

The American will look to take the first step to abiding by that schedule at the Genesis Invitational, a tournament that he has regularly hosted in the past.

Last year, in what was his first appearance since the 2022 Open Championship, Woods made the cut and finished in 45th position.

Despite his affinity with the tournament, Woods has never prevailed, yet making the cut will be his target on this occasion as he bids to sharpen his game ahead of the Players Championship, the next event that he will presumably play, in March. body check tags ::
