Team England gymnast Courtney Tulloch pays tribute to the role Max Whitlock, Nile Wilson and the rest of the team had in driving him to Commonwealth Games gold.

Team England gymnast Courtney Tulloch has told Sports Mole that being in a squad alongside the likes of Max Whitlock and Nile Wilson helped to push him towards Commonwealth Games gold on the rings this afternoon.

Tulloch claimed the first major individual gold medal of his career with a score of 14.833 on the rings, beating teammate Wilson to gold as a topsy-turvy day of gymnastics action for England ended on a high.

Whitlock and Wilson had both missed out on medals in the floor routine earlier in the day, while heavy favourite Whitlock was also then forced to settle for silver on the pommel horse.

Twenty-two-year-old Tulloch was England's only gold medallist of the session, but he was quick to pay tribute to the part his teammates played in driving him to success.

"It's amazing, I still can't believe it but I did one of my best routines and I've still got more to put in and I know I can score higher than that so I can just keep on improving from here," he told Sports Mole.

"We push each other. We're a young team, Max leading it, we all look up to him, he's an amazing gymnast, but to have Nile, James [Hall], Dom [Cunningham], we've all got good chemistry and it's amazing to be part of a team with them."

However, despite seeing England fail to live up to expectations prior to his surprise gold, Tulloch insisted that he felt no extra pressure on his shoulders going into his routine.

"No, not really. It was obviously didn't go to plan but I just knew I had to go out and do my thing," he added.

Tulloch will have the chance to add another medal to his tally when he takes part in the men's vault final on Monday.
