Team England judoka Gemma Gibbons admits that she wasn't at her best in her gold-medal fight loss to Wales's Natalie Powell at the Commonwealth Games.

Team England judoka Gemma Gibbons has admitted that she wasn't "good enough" win her -78kg gold-medal bout with Wales's Natalie Powell.

Powell defeated Gibbons with Waza-ari throw and managed to defend her lead for the remaining four minutes of the match to secure the gold.

She told reporters: "I wasn't the better player so that means I'm walking away with a silver medal. It's not what I wanted and it's not what I came for so I'm not happy.

"I'll go back and I've got lots to work on before the World Championships coming up in four weeks. I have to look back at what I did wrong and try to improve those points.

"There were no specific injuries holding me back – I just wasn't good enough. I've got lots of injuries at the moment and my fitness is not there yet but I knew that coming into the tournament. I knew I still wanted gold and wouldn't be happy with anything less."

Gibbons's husband Euan Burton won gold in the men's -100kg for Scotland.
