Team GB has finally got off the mark at the Tokyo Olympics, with Chelsie Giles earning a bronze medal in the women's -52kg judo event.

The 24-year-old - currently ranked 10th in the world - defeated Switzerland's Fabienne Kocher by Ippon, executing her second waza with a minute left on the clock.

Earlier Giles had suffered defeat to home favourite Uta Abe in the quarter-final but negotiated her way through the repechage to secure a place on the podium.

The news means that Team GB has already equalled its judo haul from Rio 2016, with four more female judokas still to compete in the coming days.

Elsewhere, Team GB has another medal in the bag on day three in Tokyo after Bradly Sinden booked a place in the final of the men's taekwondo -68kg, guaranteeing either silver or gold before the day is done.
