Andy Murray shoots down a casually sexist remark made by a journalist following his quarter-final Wimbledon exit.

World number one Andy Murray made a point of calling out a reporter for making a 'casually sexist' remark following the Scotsman's Wimbledon exit.

The defending champion, who has been struggling with a hip problem, spoke to the media after losing in five sets to Sam Querrey in the quarter-finals.

During his post-match press conference, one journalist claimed that Querrey is the first American player to reach the semi-finals of a Grand Slam since Andy Roddick in 2009.

Murray responded by saying, "Male player," which caused the reporter to ask: "Beg your pardon?"

The three-time major champion repeated his remark, reminding the journalist that Querrey is not the first American tennis professional to reach the feat due to the dominance of Serena Williams.

The 35-year-old, who is currently taking a break from the sport as she prepares to give birth to her first child, has won five Grand Slam crowns over the past three years.

Her sister Venus Williams is preparing for a Wimbledon semi-final clash against Britain's Johanna Konta tomorrow.
