Andy Murray: 'Still plenty of work to become world's best'

Andy Murray says that making the leap from second to first in the men's rankings is "the hardest one to make", as he closes in on Novak Djokovic at the top.

Andy Murray has acknowledged that he still faces a tough task trying to overhaul Novak Djokovic at the top of the men's world rankings.

The 29-year-old won his seventh title of the year on Sunday as he eased past Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the final of the Erste Bank Open in Vienna.

That straight-sets win ensured that Murray remains on track to end the season on top of the pile, with victory at next week's Paris Masters - coupled with Djokovic failing to make it to the final - enough to see him usurp the Serbian ace.

"I get a step closer with every win but it's still a long way from here," he said after his latest triumph. "From two to one seems a small jump in a way but it's the hardest one to make. To go from 100 to 50 is more spots but is a lot easier."

Murray has now won three titles in a row following recent successes in Beijing and Shanghai, losing just three matches since the French Open in June.
