It's been one heck of a year for sport; with the World Cup and Commonwealth Games, so it's no wonder that the recent Most Deserving Sports Hero award received so many nominations from across the UK, from people keen to promote their sport and the heroes working to help them thrive!

Award winner Barbara Dimmer was brought to the attention of award organisers, Motors.co.uk, as a prime example of exactly what it takes to become a sports hero. Through a submission made by Katy Perry, Club and Volunteering Manager at British Gymnastics, Barbara was named Most Deserving Sports Hero ahead of some tough competition, for her involvement with Fareham School of Gymnastics as Club Secretary and Coach.

Barbara came to play a vital role at the gymnastics school ten years ago, when her daughter Clare, - the club's founder - invited Barbara to take up an important role in its development. After suffering illness from a stroke, cancer and diabetes, Barbara chose to retire from her role as a teacher, to then pick up with the running and management of what can only be described as an inspiring gymnastics school.

Fareham School of Gymnastics currently has in excess of 400 members, and a further 100 on its waiting list. Plans to build a new facility close to the existing gym are well underway, and will allow the club to take on more students. The club has led the fundraising efforts over previous months, with Barbara very much at the helm.

As prize for winning the Most Deserving Sports Hero award, Motors.co.uk gave Barbara a car and cash donation, all of which she intends to give to the club to help it along. The car will be branded with the Fareham School of Gymnastics club logo to help with promotion, and the money will go towards the fundraising for the new facility.
