Cornerback Patrick Peterson signs new terms with the Arizona Cardinals, which will see him stay with the franchise until 2020.

The Arizona Cardinals have tied cornerback Patrick Peterson down to a new five-year deal, through to the end of the 2020 campaign.

Peterson himself revealed the terms of his new contract, stating via his personal Twitter account that he is due $70m (£41.4m), with $48m (£28.3m) guaranteed.

Ian Rapoport, of NFL Media, also said that the deal includes a $15.3m (£9m) signing-on bonus, which Peterson will pick up immediately.

The 24-year-old follows in the footsteps of fellow corner Richard Sherman, who penned a new contract with the Seattle Seahawks in May.

The pair, alongside Joe Haden and Darrelle Revis, are widely thought of as the best in their position in the league, although Peterson recently stated that he deserved more money than Sherman.

Upon signing the paperwork, Peterson told the official Cardinals website: "I haven't been to the playoffs since I have been here and that's my first goal. That's what I am focusing in on right now.

"However, I absolutely do feel that I am the best cornerback. That answer is never going to change.

"We all have different skill sets and all four of us have the ability to be the best in the league. The competition is real, and I love it."

Peterson has been selected to play in the Pro Bowl at the end of each of his three seasons in the NFL to date.
