Arizona Cardinals cornerback Patrick Peterson has claimed that Richard Sherman wouldn't be able to last if he played in the same defensive system as he does.

Sherman recently became the highest-paid cornerback in the NFL when he signed a new contract extension with the Seattle Seahawks, leading Peterson to suggest that he was worth at least as much as his counterpart.

Sherman responded with a thinly-veiled tweet that showed he had more interceptions over the last three seasons than any other cornerback, but Peterson believes that the statistics are deceiving.

"I believe if you put him in our system I don't think he'd be able to last, honestly. I actually do much more than he is. I don't want to get into that debate as far as the stats that he has and things he has," Peterson told Arizona Sports 98.7.

"Obviously, his job is definitely much easier than mine. If you look at their scheme and look at our scheme, he's a Cover 3 corner. Period. He's only covering space. He's not really covering a guy.

"At the end of the day, he has great stats and he has great playmaking ability, not taking that away from him because he is a good corner. But as far as being a shutdown corner, man-to-man guy, in my eyes, I don't believe he's that."

Peterson is currently in talks with the Cardinals over a new contract as he enters the penultimate year of his current deal.
