Buffalo Bills director of player personnel Jim Monos has revealed that the team tried to get all the way up to the first overall pick in the NFL Draft to get Sammy Watkins.
While the Bills eventually secured their target with the fourth overall pick, Monos revealed that they were in talks to get him sooner.
"We went with Houston right off the bat. We tried to go to number one. They weren't having it, they knew who they wanted, so we started working our way right down," Monos said, according to NFL.com.
General manager Doug Whaley received a call from the Cleveland Browns about trading up and from then on the franchise were able to select their primary target.
