Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton has conceded that he must "be better" after another disappointing display in the 45-21 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday night.
Newton threw three interceptions, lost a fumble and he was sacked nine times in the loss, and he believes that he has to improve in his protection of the ball.
"I pride myself on protecting the football, but that's just not happening right now," Newton said, NFL.com reports.
"I have to protect the football better. I can't put the ball up for grabs. I have to understand the difference between giving our guys an opportunity and risking the football. And in the pocket, I've got to be better."
Coach Ron Rivera defended his signal caller and insisted that he saw some good plays from him, but he explained that he left him in for the entire game as Newton needs to "work through these things".
