The Carolina Panthers have revealed that quarterback Cam Newton has undergone surgery on an ankle problem and is now recovering at home.
The franchise revealed yesterday that the 24-year-old would require the operation, having sustained the injury to his left foot at the end of last season.
Panthers physician Robert Anderson performed the surgery, and their head trainer Ryan Vermillion told the team's official website: "Dr Anderson did not find anything unexpected in the procedure and the surgery went well."
The procedure is expected to rule Newton out for four months, meaning that he will miss minicamps in May and June but should be back in time for training camp at the end of July.
