The Chicago Bears have released veteran defensive end Jamaal Anderson after less than a month with the franchise.
Anderson initially joined the Bears on July 25, filling a space in the roster following the retirement of Sedrick Ellis, but has been deemed surplus to requirements by coach Marc Trestman.
The 27-year-old was chosen by the Atlanta Falcons as the eighth overall pick in the 2007 NFL Draft but failed to fulfil his potential before being released in 2011.
Anderson has since played a season apiece for the Indianapolis Colts and, most recently, the Cincinnati Bengals, who released him last month.
Anderson has made 132 tackles and 7.5 sacks during his NFL career.
