The Chicago Bears secured their sixth win of the season as they beat the Baltimore Ravens in a weather-affected match at Soldier Field.
The Ravens took an early lead in the first quarter when running back Ray Rice powered into the end zone from one yard out, while minutes later Justin Tucker extended their lead to 10 points with a 52-yard field goal.
Heavy rain and high winds descended on the stadium and forced the players off the field. The storm lasted longer than anticipated and delayed the game for almost two hours.
When the players returned to the field, the Bears got on the board with a 20-yard field goal from Robbie Gould. But they were soon level when David Bass tipped a pass from Joe Flacco, caught in and ran in for a touchdown from 24 yards out.
Flacco responded to this setback in perfect fashion as he led his side downfield before throwing a five-yard strike to Torrey Smith in the end zone to restore the Ravens' lead.
However, just before the break Gould kicked a 46-yarder to make it a four-point game.
After half time, both teams struggled to move the ball as conditions on the field made it difficult to pass and rush on the ground as players began to lose their footing.
It took until the fourth quarter to add to the score and it was the Bears who took the lead in the contest. Quarterback Josh McCown dumped the ball off to running back Matt Forte and he beat several tackles to drive into the end zone for the 14-yard score.
Flacco mustered a lengthy drive in response as the Ravens converted twice on fourth down to keep the game alive and they moved to Bears' four-yard line, but they could not find the end zone as the home side kept them at bay forcing Tucker into a 21-yard field goal to tie the game, sending it into overtime.
The Ravens won the toss and chose to have the ball. However, their drive failed as Tandon Doss dropped the ball on a crucial third down play, giving it to the Bears.
McCown drove his team into field-goal range and Gould made no mistake in firing the ball between the posts from 38 yards to win the contest for his side.
