Cincinnati Bengals coordinator: Jason Campbell not "supplanting" Andy Dalton

Cincinnati Bengals offensive coordinator Hue Jackson believes that Jason Campbell could be a good mentor for quarterback Andy Dalton.

Cincinnati Bengals offensive coordinator Hue Jackson has denied that Jason Campbell has been brought in to replace Andy Dalton as the club's starting quarterback for 2014.

Jackson said that, instead, Campbell, who is six years the senior QB, could become a mentor for Dalton in order for the 26-year-old to become a player capable of guiding his team through the playoffs.

"In no way is he supplanting Andy Dalton. I like our quarterback," Jackson told the Bengals' official website. "But Jason is a veteran guy who has played in a lot of offenses and has won a lot of games.

"I think he can help Andy with some of the knowledge that he's picked up. He's that kind of guy. You've got a guy in Jason where things haven't gone all that well for him lately and you've got a guy in Andy that has done well but is still trying to find a way to win in the playoffs. Between the two of them there can be some things gained there."

Campbell has played for the Washington Redskins, Oakland Raiders, Chicago Bears and Cleveland Browns in his career.
