Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo will undergo an MRI scan on his back after injuring it during yesterday's win over the Washington Redskins.

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo has revealed that he will undergo an MRI scan on his back after hurting it during yesterday's 24-23 win over the Washington Redskins.

Romo went into the match carrying a slight injury to his back, a problem that was exacerbated by a hit in the first half.

However, he stayed on the pitch and orchestrated the game-winning drive that resulted in a 10-yard touchdown pass to DeMarco Murray with 1:08 left on the clock.

The 33-year-old also suffered back problems last season and was forced to undergo surgery to remove a cyst in April, but he has revealed that his current troubles are not related to that injury.

"That [hit] triggered it a little bit. Whatever the kid did on that one play, it really sent something that didn't feel comfortable," Romo told reporters.

"But it's in a completely different spot than the back stuff I had last year, so that's a good sign. [I] played through it, just like anything in football."

The Cowboys' victory leaves them in the hunt for a playoff place, and they will win the NFC East if they beat the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday - a match that Romo is expected to be fit for.
