Denver Broncos linebacker Shane Ray has declared that he will be the defensive rookie of the year in the 2015 season.
The 22-year-old was touted to be a top-10 selection in the 2015 Draft, but he was cited for marijuana possession and a toe injury dropped his stock towards the latter half of the first round.
However, the Broncos selected Ray with the 23rd selection, and he is confident that his abilities will see him shine above the other defensive players in his class in the upcoming season.
"I don't see anything less than defensive rookie of the year. I mean that's my goal," Ray told NFL Network.
"A lot of people might say that sounds cocky for you to say it right now, but I've always set high goals for myself, just like I did in college and that is something that I'm looking to prove, that I'm the best defensive rookie here."
Ray recorded 65 tackles and 14.5 sacks for the Missouri Tigers in the 2014 season.
