Free agent wide receiver Wes Welker is hopeful that he will get another chance to continue his career in the NFL in the 2015 season.

Free agent wide receiver Wes Welker has revealed his determination to continue playing in the NFL in the 2015 season.

The 34-year-old was allowed to leave the Denver Broncos at the end of last season as he struggled with injuries, which led to a decline in his production.

Welker had trouble with concussions but was cleared to return to the field for the 2015 campaign, and is hopeful of getting another shot in the league.

"I want to play," Welker told WBZ-FM. "The more I'm away from it, the more I want to go out there and be on a team and everything else. It's just kind of taking everything a day at a time, making sure I'm training and doing everything I need to do to be ready.

"Once June really gets going here and July, I'll be [training] really hard, and just knowing that I'm going to be ready. There will be an opportunity at some point. If it works out, if it's a good situation and everything else, obviously I want to continue playing."

When asked about a return to the New England Patriots, Welker added: "I wouldn't be opposed to it. It's a great organisation, obviously, and a great team. It wouldn't be the worst situation in the world."

Welker has recorded 890 receptions for 9,822 yards and 50 touchdowns in his 11-year NFL career.
