Detroit Lions tight end Dorin Dickerson has revealed that he did not report being knocked out early in the fourth quarter of his side's 23-20 overtime loss to the New York Giants yesterday.
Dickerson claims that he was concussed on a special teams play but hid the incident from medical staff until finally reporting it with 13:46 to go in overtime after dropping an open pass and being penalised for holding on consecutive plays.
The 25-year-old has admitted that he should have reported it when it initially happened but felt that he could play through the problem.
"[I] just got knocked out. Got a little concussion. Should have reported it. Thought I could get through it," Dickerson told reporters after the match.
"I mean, honestly, probably, after we leave here, I probably won't remember talking to you guys. I'm not trying to make excuses. I'm just telling the truth. I thought I had a pretty good game up until that play."
Dickerson registered just one catch for eight yards as the Lions slipped to their third consecutive defeat to end their playoff hopes with one game to spare.
