NFL vice-president of operations Merton Hanks has explained that Ndamukong Suh was fined for a hit on Cleveland Browns quarterback Brandon Weeden last week because he repeatedly breaks the league's rules.
The Detroit Lions defensive tackle was not flagged during the game for the hit, but the late contact and use of the helmet was enough for the NFL to review the play and fine the 26-year-old $31,500 (£19,500).
Hanks told NFL Network: "The fine amount is more than the minimum because he is a repeat offender, and I want to get Ndamukong Suh's attention in this regard
"I've got to help him course correct. In the big scheme of things, it's not an egregious play. It is a violation, that's why he was fined."
The fine is Suh's second of the season and seventh of his career.
