Jim Schwartz: 'Nate Burleson's spirits are low'

Detroit Lions head coach Jim Schwartz says that wide receiver Nate Burleson's spirits are low after he broke his arm in a car crash.

Jim Schwartz has said that Nate Burleson is feeling low after injuring his arm in a car crash.

The Detroit Lions wide receiver fractured his arm in two places during a single-vehicle crash yesterday morning and will undergo surgery later today, which will keep him off the field for several weeks.

The Lions head coach told the team's official website: "Understandably his spirits are low. He was down. He just came off his best performance as a Lion and his best performance since, I think, 2007.

"He was just getting in to the swing of things. He was a big part of our offense. He's certainly down. The one thing about Nate is Nate is a really really tough guy. He's been through a lot in his career.

"It's not an emergency surgery. It's not a compound fracture or anything else. We want to make sure that he gets it fixed and fixed well. The same surgeon will do it that did his knee last year. We have a lot of confidence and he has a lot of confidence in that doctor."

Burleson, who recorded 239 receiving yards and a touchdown in the first three games of the NFL season, was reportedly reaching to prevent a pizza from slipping off his passenger seat when he lost control of the vehicle.
