Matt Stafford: 'I've embraced coaching changes'

Detroit Lions quarterback Matt Stafford believes that he has coped well with the first major coaching change of his NFL career as Jim Caldwell replaced Jim Schwartz at the club.

Detroit Lions quarterback Matt Stafford has revealed that he has "embraced" the change at the club during the off-season.

The Lions fired head coach Jim Schwartz following their failure to reach the playoffs and replaced him with Jim Caldwell, who brought in a new offensive and defensive coordinator.

Stafford believes that he has coped with the first major change of his professional career and is looking forward to working with the new staff throughout the season.

"I think I've embraced it," Stafford told team's official website. "It's something that is obviously a challenge. I don't see this as something that I'm on this path by myself, but at the same time, I know the guys on the team are going to look up to me.

"You never want to see coaches go, or people you've been with five-plus years, [backup quarterback] Shaun Hill included. But sometimes change can be a great thing. That's the mindset I've taken into this.

"Frankly, to be successful after the changes, that's the only mindset you can have."

Stafford threw for 4,560 yards along with 29 touchdowns to 19 interceptions in the 2013 season.
