Ndamukong Suh: 'I could have avoided Detroit Lions during 2010 Draft'

Defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh says that he could have chosen to move up or down during the 2010 Draft if he had have not wanted to play for the Detroit Lions.

Detroit Lions star Ndamukong Suh has admitted that he could have worked things to his advantage had he decided that he did not want to join the franchise during the 2010 NFL Draft.

Following a stellar college career with the Nebraska Cornhuskers, Suh was taken second overall by the Lions four seasons ago.

The defensive tackle is now in the midst of contract negotiations with his team, and although talks are "civil and productive" between the two parties, his appearance at organised team activities was still deemed noteworthy.

The 27-year-old told reporters: "I'm here and Detroit and I'm happy to be in Detroit. Probably a lot of you guys don't know, I could have gone elsewhere when I was drafted.

"I had that decision in my hands. I chose not to take it because that's just the way I saw it at the time. There's many ways to do things [during the Draft]. You can drop down, you can move up. But like I said, that's water under the bridge.

"The coach (Jim Caldwell) has said we're not in a rebuilding year. We're here to win a championship and that's exactly what I intend to do."

Should Suh and the Lions not reach an agreement, the three-time Pro Bowler will be an unrestricted free agent this time next year.
