The Green Bay Packers have released offensive lineman Greg van Roten after two seasons with the team.
Van Roten featured in nine games for the Packers as a rookie in 2012 and also appeared in the first three games of last season before injuring his foot in practice.
The 23-year-old was placed on injured reserve and did not play again for the Packers, and his agent Bill Baldini admitted that it was a "shame" to see him cut.
"I spoke to them, and they felt like they wanted to get bigger. They didn't think he'd be in their plans for the immediate future, so they decided it would be better for him if they let him go now," Baldini is quoted as saying by ESPN.
"It's a shame because he loves the Packers organization and loves the town."
However, the agent insisted that his client's foot injury was not the reason behind his exit, claiming that he was fit enough to play on instead of being placed on injured reserve.
"His foot is fine. It actually felt fine during the season. He could have returned," he added.
Van Roten was an undrafted free agent when the Packers picked him up.
