The Green Bay Packers have confirmed that quarterback Aaron Rodgers has signed a contract extension with the team.

Rodgers confirmed on social media last week that he would remain with the Packers for an 18th season, although he insisted that reports of a mammoth new deal making him the highest-paid quarterback in the NFL were "inaccurate".

However, the 38-year-old has now put pen to paper on fresh terms with the Packers and is supposedly set to pocket a whopping $50m (£38.3m) per year over the first three years of his contract.

"We are very pleased to be able to come to an agreement with Aaron that keeps him in Green Bay," General Manager Brian Gutekunst told packers.com.

"His play on the field and leadership in our locker room remain vital in our pursuit of another Super Bowl title. The agreement also allows us to maintain and enhance what we feel is already a very competitive roster."

Rodgers was named the NFL's MVP for the second season running last month after ending the 2021 campaign with 4,115 passing yards and 37 touchdown passes. body check tags ::
