Indianapolis Colts kicker Adam Vinatieri says that any changes to kicking points should reward more points, rather than fewer as suggested by NFL chief Roger Goodell.

Indianapolis Colts veteran Adam Vinatieri has responded to quotes from NFL commissioner Roger Goodell regarding field goals and extra points.

Goodell recently stated how the kicking of field goals and the extra point could be changed in the near future, questioning whether there is a need for the PAT.

However, the kicker - who has four Super Bowl rings to his name across his 18 years in the league - has disagreed that alterations need to be in a negative sense, suggesting that any changes made should reward a team with more than the three points currently on offer from a field goal.

Vinatieri told reporters: "I don't think any of us kickers are above the ability to change football from what it is. I mean, it's been the way it has been for 100 years. I don't know if we should start changing that stuff up now.

"If anything, make a 50-yard field goal worth four points instead of three. Now all of a sudden we become more valuable rather than less valuable."

The 41-year-old has 499 career field goals to his name, and he converted 35 of his 40 attempts during the 2013 regular season.
