Season Preview: Jacksonville Jaguars

Sports Mole previews the season ahead for AFC South side the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The Jacksonville Jaguars will be looking for a vast improvement in the 2013 season following their 2-14 record in the 2012 campaign.

The Jags fired head coach Mike Mularkey and replaced him with former Seattle Seahawks defensive coordinator Gus Bradley.

Bradley's Seahawks were one of the best defensive units in the NFL last season and he will be hopeful of producing similar results in the start of the rebuilding job in Jacksonville.

Sports Mole takes a look at what the season ahead holds for the Jaguars.

Head Coach: Gus Bradley

Last season: 2-14

Review: The Jaguars struggled from the off in the 2012 season as they fell to an opening day defeat to the Minnesota Vikings in over-time. The Jags picked up their only away win of the season against the Indianapolis Colts in week three with a 22-17 victory.

Seven straight defeats followed with two over-time losses to the Houston Texans and the Oakland Raiders before they picked up their second and final victory of the season in week 12 against the Tennessee Titans.

Mike Mularkey's side finished the campaign with five straight defeats to end the season 2-14, the second-worst record in the NFL.

Notable Ins

Gus Bradley: A change in management was needed to overhaul the Jaguars team and scheme. Bradley produced an excellent defense when he was at Seattle; if he can produce similar results at Jacksonville, the team will improve gradually.

Luke Joeckel: The Jags selected Joeckel second overall in the 2013 Draft to sure up their offensive line for this season and keep quarterback Blaine Gabbert upright. If Joeckel can help the running game and allow Gabbert more time to throw the ball, the Jags have a decent chance of picking up more wins this season.

Notable Outs

Terrance Knighton: The defensive tackle opted to leave the club by not signing a new deal and joined the Denver Broncos. Knighton played 16 games for the Jaguars last season and notched two sacks.

Aaron Ross: The former first-round pick was meant to become an integral part of the Jaguars secondary after signing a big contract after leaving the New York Giants. Ross started just nine games and was released at the end of the season and rejoined the Giants.

Key Player Offense: Maurice Jones-Drew

Key Player Defense: Jason Babin

Rookie to watch: Johnathan Cyprien

Pre-season form: 1-3

Prediction: 4-12 – Despite the changes to their coaching staff it will be another year of toil for the Jaguars. There are still a lot of gaping holes in their team and they have no depth. Gabbert has yet to show he can be an NFL quarterback after being drafted in the first round in 2011 and will have to do a lot to get his team to a winning record this season.
