Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith has signed a new long-term deal with the club ahead of the 2014 season.
Smith joined the Chiefs last season in a trade move from the San Francisco 49ers that saw the club part with a second-round pick to acquire the 30-year-old.
The quarterback has signed a four-year deal with the AFC West side worth $68m (£40.9m), with $45m (£27m) of his contract guaranteed, reports NFL Network.
"It was a priority of ours to get this deal done and keep Alex in a Chiefs uniform long-term," Chiefs general manager John Dorsey told the club's official website.
"Alex is a proven leader on and off the field. He is a special individual with a lot of ability, and we are fortunate to have him here."
Smith threw for 3,313 yards and 23 touchdowns to seven interceptions for the Chiefs last season.
