The owner of the Miami Dolphins has revealed plans to modernise the Sun Life Stadium.
Stephen M Ross wants the facility to be suitable to host the Super Bowl, association football games and the Pan Am Games, as well as a number of other events.
Ross told the Dolphins' website: "I bought this team because I love this town. I went to high school here and built much of my business here.
"Like most Miamians, I believe no other community in America represents a better destination for blockbuster events. My goal is to secure the future of Miami-Dade and the Dolphins so we can remain a global competitor for sports and entertainment for at least another 25 years.
"I think our planned modernisation will maintain the special outdoor flavour of Miami, while giving us the look of the best stadiums around the world."
Ross says that he will fund the work, which is expected to create 4,000 jobs in the area, rather than ask for a tax increase for local residents.
The work is to include more comfortable seating, HD video screens and lighting and an open air canopy.
