Cortland Finnegan admits considering retirement when season ends

Miami Dolphins cornerback Cortland Finnegan says that walking away from football on his own terms would be "really fulfilling", should his career finish next month.

Miami Dolphins cornerback Cortland Finnegan has admitted that he may call time on his career once the current campaign is over.

Finnegan went undrafted in 2006 before being picked up by the Tennessee Titans, where he spent six years. In 2008, he was chosen for the Pro Bowl after a solid season in Nashville.

Having moved to the St Louis Rams, Finnegan signed a one-year deal with the Dolphins last summer, but he has insisted that if his career ends in four weeks' time, he would have no regrets.

The 30-year-old told the Miami Herald: "I would love to come back, but I understand the business side of it too.

"If you have to walk away from it and it's no more, I can't be mad. I've accomplished every individual goal I want to.

"When you get a chance to do something that you love, and at some point you can just leave on your own terms, it's really fulfilling. I won't look back at my life or my career and be like, 'Ah, I miss this,' because I've done it long enough."

After being out of action with an injury, Finnegan is expected to return to the field against the New England Patriots next weekend.
