Josh Freeman has revealed that he is using the story of Kurt Warner for inspiration following his return to the NFL with the Miami Dolphins.

Warner arrived in the league as an undrafted free agent and was released by the Green Bay Packers before joining the Arena League and then NFL Europe.

He returned to the NFL as a backup for the St Louis Rams, but an injury to Trent Green thrust him into a starting role, where he thrived as he became MVP in the 1999 campaign and won the Super Bowl to start a successful career in the league.

Freeman had a strong start to his career with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but since 2013 has struggled to replicate that form and will enter the 2015 season with his fourth team in as many years.

He told reporters: "I haven't found anybody with the same exact situation, but I'll tell you, last week I was out in Arizona working out and I had a chance to spend a little time with Kurt Warner while I was out there.

"He's a guy, a prime example of a guy who was out of football and got that call and stepped into a situation and ultimately made the most of it. Kurt's an amazing guy, a competitor, and his approach, going into his time with the Rams, was definitely something I can learn from."

Freeman has thrown for 13,724 yards and 80 touchdowns to 67 interceptions in his six years in the NFL.
