Ryan Tannehill eager to improve deep passing threat

Miami Dolphins quarterback Ryan Tannehill says that he has to start "letting it rip" when he looks to throw the ball long to Mike Wallace.

Miami Dolphins quarterback Ryan Tannehill has acknowledged that he needs to do better when passing long and downfield.

Tannehill has completed just three of 17 attempts thrown to Mike Wallace of 20 yards or longer, and four of his 11 interceptions this season have been on deep passes to his wide receiver.

One of these such efforts was thrown during Sunday's win against the San Diego Chargers.

Had Wallace been able to connect with the pass, he would have likely run for a touchdown, but Tannehill's underthrow failed to reach him.

Tannehill told the Miami Herald: "Mike is often open. I've just got to throw it out there for him. That's two games in a row where he's been behind the defense. I've just got to trust it and let it rip.

"You sometimes tense up. You don't want to overthrow him, so you end up underthrowing him. If I only get a couple of opportunities to get him the ball, then I've got to throw it out there and let him run underneath."

The Dolphins are in third spot in the AFC East with a 5-5 record from their 10 games so far.
