Gerald Green 'safe and healthy' after hospital

Miami Heat reserve guard Gerald Green is 'fit and healthy after being taken to hospital with an unconfirmed illness earlier this week.

Miami Heat coach Erik Spoelstra has said that reserve guard Gerald Green "is safe and healthy" a day after he was hospitalised for an undisclosed reason.

Green did not play on Tuesday in Miami's loss to Atlanta Hawks because of what the team called an illness, and it was later confirmed that he had been taken to hospital the following morning.

Spoelstra declined to offer any specifics on Green's condition ahead of the game against Minnesota Timberwolves on Thursday, but his teammate Dwayne Wade said that the thoughts of all the club staff were with the player.

"Whenever a teammate is sick or there is an illness, we all reach out," Wade told reporters. "That is just what we do. Whenever something happens in one of our teammates or family's lives we all reach out. That is a part of this basketball family that we are all in."

Green averaged over 10 points during the Heat's first three regular-season games after signing as a free agent in July, averaging 10.3 points, but it remains unclear how long he will be out of action.
