Former NFL running back Jim Brown believes that Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson can break the all-time rushing record before the end of his career.

Jim Brown has said that Adrian Peterson can break the NFL's all-time rushing record before the end of his career.

The Minnesota Vikings running back has carried the ball for 10,115 yards since entering the league, leaving him 8,220 behind Emmitt Smith, who broke the record in 2002.

Brown, who held the record until 1984, told the Pioneer Press: "If he wants that and he dedicates himself and he has good fortune, that's a great possibility.

"I think if he sets his goals and he understands his circumstances and he knows what it takes, that he can be successful. I'm not saying that he will break the record, I'm just saying it's a possibility.

"He's a great football player. He's always been a real fine gentleman and a great worker. His running style and the effort he puts in is unbelievable. I have the greatest respect for him."

Peterson has averaged 1,445 yards per season during his seven years in the NFL.
