Former league MVP Adrian Peterson has insisted that he is "happy to be a Viking" after restructuring his contract with the Minnesota Vikings.
The running back played in just one game during the 2014 NFL season after being charged with child abuse for disciplining his son, returning to the team last month.
"I feel like both parties are pleased. I'm excited we were able to get things done. It just shows the support these guys have been showing me and that they believe in me and I believe them as well. I'm just looking forward to this season and kicking things off and getting things back on track," NBC Sports quotes the 30-year-old as saying.
"I'm definitely happy. If that wasn't the case, I would have just played this year out and not try to redo the contract. I'm happy to be a Viking. I can say that I've been around these people for a long time now, so they know me and I know them.
"It's a lot of new faces but it's a lot of guys that I've been around for five-plus years. Just the entire organisation, not just the head coach, but also the front office, people in the marketing building. You build that rapport with those guys and those women and they're family. It feels good to be back around family."
Peterson rushed for 2,097 yards during the 2012 NFL season, falling just eight yards short of Eric Dickerson's all-time single-season rushing record.
