Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson will have off-season surgery for the second consecutive year, as he bids to recover from a groin problem which plagued him during the final weeks of the campaign.

Peterson missed two of the final four games of the year with the injury, and limited participation in the other two games led to him carrying the ball just 18 times.

After recovering from an ACL injury prior to the 2012 season, Peterson required a hernia operation a year ago in order to be fit for last September. The same doctor - Dr William Meyers of Philadelphia - will reportedly carry out the rusher's latest surgery.

Despite his niggles, Peterson still managed to rush for 1,266 yards and 10 touchdowns this season, being selected for the Pro Bowl for the sixth time in his career.

However, due to his groin injury, he opted out of the game and was replaced by Green Bay Packers running back Eddie Lacy.
